Inspirations Bring Creation — Creator's Blog

I no have education. I have inspiration. If I was educated, I would be a damn fool

— Bob Marley

Initiation of A Concept - Introduction:

Well, obviously this is kind of unorthodox, at least for me, as I have always seemed to favour content that is heavily researched or has some basis to lie upon, but this time, I tried to go with something that doesn't need any of that, instead, I aim to write from my heart, everything you see here are either my own thoughts or creations, from opinions to basic simple facts that I often like to quote one way or another.

As opposed to my more journalistic approach of things with a tad of my own thoughts on video games; this will be a more personal project I'd like to embark upon for all to see, this will be my blog, and this will be where I put my thoughts, creations and advances made to anything, mostly, to amount to a lack of compelling content (In my opinion) and to allow everyone to get to know me, and my Project: Catharsis in one way or another.

And what better place to start a new, unorthodox, idea than to go through all the inspirations that give birth to my ideas for Project: Catharsis?

Let's punch in the keys, and punch the red button lads, we're going deep behind enemy lines in an irradiated zone.

Main Inspirations:

My main inspirations for Project: Catharsis have always been kind of the opposite of unorthodox, nothing really revolutionary. But I like to think that the ideas I take from these things are the original parts. As always, it's not plagiarising if you put your own soul into an idea and expand upon it.

Something, that would certainly be different in other creative genres in this case, when you're telling a story, you're free to take inspiration on many things that truly help and to sprinkle them upon your universe as you see fit.

With a short list and explanation of each, however, I will lay out the main inspirations that give life to Project Catharsis:

After DayZ - Corridor Digital:

An indie short, based on an indie mod for a triple-A game being hidden by being a PC Exclusive, by far it's not the first to do a short of such style and name, but it was the first video to compel me in a way that truly inspired half of the concepts in my universe. Rather telling, if someone caught it, was not the basic instincts of survival that two men have, but instead, the dynamics of two men that speak and write in different languages.

Truly a goldmine when it comes to storytelling, forcing you to rely upon other forms of communications that are almost universal instead of using the thing that makes us - Humanity; special. The ability to speak and understand words, take this away, place yourself in a position where you gotta rely on someone else to survive; someone who doesn't speak your same language, or at least doesn't speak it that much, and you're left with a more intimate relationship between storyteller and characters that create a far more in-depth dynamic between them. By far, the main motif of such a relationship; is trust.

Metro series:

Russians and the Post Apocalypse, they're bound to create great concepts and stories surrounding the apocalypse, while, they create things that oftentimes have to do with the unknown and the mutant, with relics and anomalies, I found a better angle to look at the world itself and how it was built.

Metro has become my main inspiration for the irradiated wasteland, the dependency of Gas Masks and filters, ammunition as currency, these things are not original concepts by far, but if done correctly and executed well, they can become compelling and engage with the reader or player. In this angle, you have the freedom to create any encounter your mind desires that simply contains the suspense and struggle of survival.

A feeling everyone can empathise with; if only it is done with the proper care and thought.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R:

While many looks at STALKER for the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and the survival in a world that is incredibly compelling and interesting, not only because you can visit it in real life, but because your journey there is filled with hardships and challenges that make you connect with the barren world.

I look at it and enjoy the connections between the different factions of the world.

Duty, Military, Bandits, Freedom, and the most neutral and loners of STALKERs, they all have their own substance and depth and interact with each faction comparatively differently.

Such a sight to see when your actions truly have consequences depending on the faction you choose, albeit, minor changes for a game so vast. While I also take minor inspirations from the real wasteland, the real Exclusion Zone, I love the factions of STALKER, and they are the closest thing to an inspiration I have to their interactions in the wasteland. Of course, with my own ideas to expand upon them, warlords.

The Crazies:

Something always fascinated me about this movie, obviously, it wasn't the terrible acting or ageing effects, but the concept of people slowly going crazy and losing control of their own selves. Almost like Zombies, but not dead.

I have created something like this, that I will possibly venture deeper upon at a later date. As of right now. I leave you with its name.

Fritz Disease.

Don't stay up waiting for the meaning, I won't venture so deeply into it YET.

Maze Runner:

This one is a strange one, I know, but hear me out.

Hi-Tech - Post Apocalypse

While the rest of the world is in disarray and using whatever scraps of the modern era they could possibly find, there are some people who use a certain set of gear that is far more advanced and far more protective, this is something that I have used and sprinkled upon carefully in my world, without going too far into the unexpected and always staying within the rules of the world I have created.

Just don't expect it a lot, but, be wary.

However these are all I will reveal, you don't expect me to spill all the beans do you? Just enjoy a good can of beans, my friend. Beans are your friend in the impending apocalypse.

What's To Come:

Well, as previously explained, this is going to be my personal series, I hope you will enjoy it and, there's a lot to come, Wendigos.

Just don't lie awake, because art takes time to be drawn.

Author's Notes:

And that concludes the start of this shorter series of articles, of course, remember that if you pledge to me on Patreon, you will get access to an exclusive piece that I did not include here today regarding one of my many inspirations. Pledge $5 or more to read it! Or pledge anything you want! Any amount helps.

I also have been working on overhauling most aspects of my social personas and my sites, as they're the somewhat literal face of me on the internet. I have also been overhauling my Patreon rewards, as I still don't have many things to give back.

But, it should always be seen as something bonus from the content I create for you guys. We're getting each and every day closer to the March deadline! My sister has already left the country and I have planned to depart on Late March-Beginnings of April. If you want to help out, anything will help.

I hope you enjoy the rest of my work this month and the next, I have a few GGDBs coming and the next one shall be out in the course of the week! It's gonna be 6k words!

[I promise I'll get more comfortable with this series as I realise its overall main goal. And I will start letting more out as well]

Los Patrones: As always, though, thank you, each and every one of you for allowing me to make this content possible for all of you! I know this one was short, but I'm trying to leave these extra vague! So no worries as I go I will allow myself to reveal more and more.
